In the hymn sung today in the Seedbed.com Wake Up Call devotional, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” JD Walt noted in it a reference to raising one’s Eben Ezer, a stone of remembrance as a testimony to God’s work on our behalf. Bill and I have had an Eben Ezer that has been with us since 1997. It is a large stone from a grandparents’ family homestead in Alabama, where both our family stories began. It was loaded on a trailer and delivered to our home at Country Club Ct. in Lynn Haven, FL by my parents as a remembrance of the steadfastness of “family”following a very difficult season in our lives. It was moved with great effort! It became a symbol of God’s presence, provision, and redemption for us. That stone has traveled with us during each move and has stood near the entry to each home. It was relocated to Tropical Dr. at Deerpoint Lake in 2004. Then, with me, alone after Bill’s death during Covid, to Grand Falls Ln. in 2021, and most recently, with me again in 2025 to Cedar Av. With this move it was too difficult to move into place and position it upright in the sloping front yard, so I directed it to be laid down horizontally at the back corner of my lot, by the mailbox, still a place of prominent visibility to many who come and go at my home. If it is not able to go with me to rest outside a window, if I find it necessary someday to have nursing home care, it’ll be the last thing I see as I depart my home. (CBB 11/11/25)
