Thoughts at 11:11 on 11/11

Today’s date “11/11”. (CBB 11/11/25)

I remember a Sunday morning when a young grade school friend walked into my church office and noticed the digital clock on my desk showed 11:11 as the time (which it does twice daily!) He exclaimed, “Quick, make a wish!” I asked what he meant. He shared with me that 11:11 or 1111 is a “lucky number”… If one makes a wish upon seeing it, the wish will come true.

Since I don’t put much stock in luck or wishful thinking, I wondered how he had come to that conclusion. He said “Everybody says it.” In inquiring about it further, I discovered that it’s a pretty trendy cultish belief, particularly among youth and New Age internet followers of astrology and numerology. Since I don’t follow either camp this little piece of information had not crossed my field of view.

Reports say 11:11 or 1111 signify new beginnings. Whether starting a new passage or already gliding along the right path, 1111 indicates synchronous confirmation that good things are coming your way. 1111 directs focus on all the good and is there to guide and reinforce your decisions. When it comes in view, New age spiritual teachers, psychic therapists, and astrology podcasters say one should focus and trust it as a favorable indicator, that angels or the universe are trying to tell you something. A good transformation is near.

I don’t follow psychics, New Ageism, or astrology.
Numbers are used in many processes and systems to bring about or reveal balance, order, and beauty in the world. ….. periodic table, ph measures, principles of floral design, architecture and engineering, music, math equations, financial transactions, etc.
The Lord has used numbers and biblical associations to communicate with His people, too. Many numbers in the Bible are interpreted through a symbolic framework. In ways that God has used numerals to speak to my heart “1” may have either of two meanings in reference to being …. either designating the One God, high and holy, who is worshipped and obeyed, or alternately, it can also represent one who views herself as independent, self -appointed to the position of control and authority over her own life dismissing the role of God in her life. Do you remember a popular series of recorded Christian testimonies called “I Am Second?” Those affirmed the pre-eminence of God as first and one’s self subordinated to second in importance in one’s life.

I have observed that Hebrew’s repetition of something indicates an increasing degree of significance or weight relative to the normative (single), comparative (between two) and superlative (three or more relative to one another) i.e. “tall, taller, tallest.
Christian Scripture’s God is Three in One- Father, Son, Holy Spirit -all of same essence and nature, that is the most “holy, holy, holy” of Beings. As such the Triune Godhead might be noted at “111”…. So how does the addition of a fourth “1” translate into goodness and favor for a person by this holy accounting? By the wise choice to align one’s own Self with the fullness of the measure of God’s rightrousness and will. By choosing to be part of 1111”, one is committing to God’s will and way, to obedient following and is one’s best hope of blessings in the future!

Further, one might see 11:11 this way. The left side being me aligned in agreement with God’s will in my thoughts, while the right side represents my alignment with God’s will in my resulting actions. Balance and order, fulfilling God’s BEST!

So I can see how such a happy synchonicity could come to indicate good luck or wishes coming true, even for nonbelievers. But since Christians don’t believe in such things our rationale would simply be that joining myself into alignment with the purpose and power of the Holy Three-in-One certainly represents one’s very best choice and the hope of an equally “BEST” outcome!

If one chooses Christ and seeks His mind, looking for the glory, goodness, and hand of God at work in the world, God will give us the ability for vision, hearing, understanding, and obedience to make His thoughts, His desires, and His ways our own.
