A prayer that is so on-point. Copied from the page of Cathy Boyd Byrd, written by Sarah Westfall. 5/30/22
“Grief is a wild creature, and right now, all our emotions and questions and frustrations are seeping out of the cracks of our brokenness. Some of it is spilling over onto each other.
While I do not want to diminish the loss, put a lid on conversation, or inhibit necessary change, my hope in this moment is that we will not lose sight of our shared humanity.
…..today, I want to make space to pause and offer this simple prayer:
God, may these groans become our common ground.
May we sit down in the dirt with each other,
close enough to see the red streaks of pain in the eyes of another person.
May we lean in, listen, and lament what has been lost.
May we pound the ground with our fists.
May we water this rocky soil with our tears
and allow our shared ache to grow something new between us.
Father, receive our fury and our questions,
and shape our grief into your good.” Amen!
