Small luxuries….
42 years ago I had purchased flannel sheets, two queen sets- one pink and one blue for our children’s beds- and a soft gold colored king set for our bed. We had bought a 1920’s frame home in an historic district of Montgomery, AL and were remodeling it ourselves. We were using a wood stove and floor furnace before the central unit was installed. I discovered that a flannel flat sheet made a great year round light weight blanket on our bed and it became standard fare for bed dressing through the years. After we no longer had a king size bed, but a pair of adjustable twins on a king frame, I bought twin flannel flats for our bed. Now that I’m in a queen again I realized the only queen flannel flat I had was the pink one and it was nearly thread-bare after all these years and had a two sided pink floral heart appliquéd on it where one of our previous dogs, Abby, in a fit of storm anxiety had chewed a hole in it! So I purchased two nice new Land’s End white queen size flannel flat sheets for myself for Christmas for the two queen size beds in my home now. They are luxurious and generously sized. I use a white seersucker coverlet and white sheets in my room, so everything looks and feels very clean, fresh and crisp. It makes me want to make the bed everyday just to smooth out the textures with my hands and enjoy the look! And settling in at night is a comfy treat. I’ve decided that at almost 68 I should have some things that I really enjoy and appreciate, if I can, especially when it comes to something as significant as sleep time! LOL! Nite-nite. Sweet dreams.
