when o worked in a hospital laboratory I took on call duty every third weekend. It could be frantic depending on things that happened… I spent a lot of time driving back and forth responding to urgent demands. That seems to be part and parcel with ministry, too.
What a night…..after the fire scare at Titus 2, a family member out of town spent hours communicating with and ministering to someone intent on suicide, and I was contacted about 3:00am while sitting up reading by someone who’d been in our LHUMC CR group years ago and lives out of town now. The person is over 5 years sober but depressed and feeling the urge to cut. We texted for about an hour and half and made a plan to getting “unstuck” and back on track. If one has chosen to make herself available to God’s people, God knows when and where he can call on us to do his work. Ministry is a 24/7 calling. But be assured that God will provide rest. We just have to be willing to clock out and let God know we are honoring his command by taking our Sabbath. He doesn’t demand overtime. We think no one else will or can do it. If we are discipling others, then we have plenty of back up to call on and refer people to! I did that this week several times. So happy to see disciples become disciplers! 3/4/2016
