Pure Hearts

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

When we make every effort to deal honestly, to avoid deceit, to be transparent, to trust (at least until it is proven to be unwarranted), to live in accountable community with others, and to look for the good in the world, we will see begin to see God at work all around us…..his fingerprints will be evident to us in our own lives, in the lives of those we love and in the world at large. And even when others fail us, we will know God’s comfort and eventually find our way back to a place of peace and restoration in Christ.

When one’s heart is duplicitous, suspecting of others,, untrusting, deceitful, evasive, dishonest, and guarded…..that, too, is what will be observed in others and in the world at large. And when others fail us, it will be used as further evidence that the world is not good and God does not care. Too often one attributes to God the nature that she knows best, her own.

It is sad that some people know so little about the reality of God’s goodness, God’s sovereignty, God’s love, and God’s desire to know and be known in an intimate relationship.
