Most of us have friends with whom we share intimate aspects of ourselves. Some of us have prayer and accountability partners with whom we meet regularly to be scrupulously open and vulnerable. Some of us have coaches who give us technical instruction and motivation in particular areas of our lives. Some have spiritual directors with whom to explore God’s revelation of himself, his will for their lives, and their response to God’s call. Some have counselors who listen attentively and ask questions to challenge perspectives and help identify obstacles or blind spots and how to move beyond them.
Each of us has available to us Jesus, who is Friend, Teacher, Counselor, Comforter, Advocate, Priest, Confessor, Father, Healer, and Savior. If you have this One, all of the others will be used by him to make known and confirm his will for your life.
I am blessed to have each of these roles being fulfilled by a variety of individuals in my life…each of them with a personal relationship with Christ, too, so that I am confident that his wisdom informs their wisdom.
Proverbs 11:14
“Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory.”
