Grandchildren Memories: Catie

3/10/2017

Bill and I had a conversation over lunch with our eldest granddaughter, age “almost 20” about the movie “Silence” and about theological implications of persevering in the faith, apostasy, being used by God in the most difficult of circumstances, depravity of humanity, imago dei, freewill, hearing and being obedient to the voice of God, and other exciting topics! She started out as a cradle Methodist, but due to the increasingly liberal teaching of her family’s UM church in Charlotte, NC, her parents moved them to non-denominational churches through several geographical relocations, and now as teens and young adults she and her siblings have been part of a Baptist church here in our community. She attends a Reformed University Fellowship in college and is considering attending a reformed seminary after she completes her undergraduate work in international studies and religion. As we talked, though, it was clear that she and I were both able to transcend denominational dogma and theological sticking points finding the Truth of the Word, or, as her RUF leader describes it…..being a “Biblicist!” .

( 3/10/2022- As I recall it was not long after this visit that Catie changed her career goal to law. She worked hard, complete her JD at Mercer School of Law and now works with a national non-profit advocacy law group.)
