Life Under and Beyond Roe

From my 1960’s teen coming-of-age years until 1992, I was strongly pro-choice in my social views on abortion.  In 1992, the Lord gently spoke in my spirit and I had a total 180 degree change of heart.. It resulted in significant changes in my thinking about a lot of things.  Now,30 years later, I am seeing historic changes in policies on abortion as Roe v Wade is rolled back and authority is returned to states.

I am pleased to say that our own eldest granddaughter, born 5 years after my change of heart, had been active for three years on the life team of a legal non-profit agency that had a significant role in defending the Dobbs case at the Supreme Court chsllenge of Roe. Wade!

It is an historic day in the continuing ebb and flow that leaves one wondering what the years of our grand and great-grands lives will hold?

Technology has changed the abortion scenario. If the  changes in law anticipated in response to the Dodd decision are about “privacy”, what could be more private than the early term sterile disposal of your unborn child with a chemical hormone abortive pill the “day after” or up to 10 weeks, as prescribed?  This Dobbs “rollback” of the activist abortion protection that created a horrific “industry of death” isn’t going to solve the tragedy of abortion, but it will stop the savage viable pre-birth and “late-term” butchery of babies.

A senior attorney who worked on the Dobbs case said many abortion clinics had already closed or were anticipating closure because of mail-order oral abortive pills. That pill, as I understand, is only effective up to gestation week 10, which at least forces one to make a decision sooner rather than later. Planned Parenthood and abortion clinics can’t fund raise & bill big bucks to support all their staff & overhead or salvage sellable harvested “fetal tissue” if it goes down a toilet at home. It doesn’t stop the tragedy of abortion altogether, but it makes it less savage than late-term butchery. I’m sure the adverse impact of oral chemical hormone abortions will be seen in time. But for now there is a brake on the speeding train that was robbing us of future generations. Now we must support pregnancy, birth, & strengthen family support systems to improve the wellbeing of children & their mothers and fathers.

“Back in the early 1980s, Joe Biden, who was a U.S. Senator from Delaware at the time, signed a proposed amendment by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) that sought to reverse Roe vs. Wade: A right to abortion is not secured by this Constitution,” read the Human Life Federalism Amendment. “The Congress and several States shall have the concurrent power to restrict and prohibit abortions: Provided, That a law of a State which is more restrictive than a law of Congress shall govern.”

……..The Senate Judiciary Committee, where Biden was a ranking minority member, voted 10-7 for the resolution.”

Virtually all politicians in Washington DC, especially if they’re there more than 2 terms, are finger-licking, cultural wind-reading opportunists without any virtue of character.

Given the increasingly widening and polarized fractionation of our culture, how shall we be governed? Dictatorially, from the  top down, based on whose “coalition” can sway the largest number of individuals in support of their position across all 345 million Americans? That is not the government we have, though those driving progressive agendas to impose their view of utopia upon all of us wish it to be so. ( By threatening constitutionally protected “checks and balances” to unrestrained power.) Or shall we allow states’/ regions’ residents to decide among their respective citizens? We are not an ideologically homogeneous nation any more than we are in any other defined parameter. Failure to respect and unwillingness to implement or even permit reasonable protections that allow all stake-holders, even the less aggressive, less empowered, less well-resourced, or out and out minority views to exercise conscience or find a place of safety leads to the mindset of further division or even “nuclear mutual-assured destruction” instead of peaceful co-existence. If some can express their cultural values and social agenda through “sanctuary cities” for those they choose to harbor and protect, why may not others establish sanctuaried states or regions where the value of the unborn or newly-ready-to-be-born are given at least some measure of protection from the abortion-rights absolutists for whom even a viable term baby or delivered infant may be left to lay alone, neglected until dead, or dismembered in utero??
