When the Light comes….
Years ago I read a book by Terry Kay, The Year The Lights Came On. It was about the WPA electrification of the rural south and the impact that year of many changes had on young boy’s life. Some years, some events, some seasons have that kind of epiphanies impact on us.
Sometimes it takes the darkness of disaster to comprehend the true source of our Light.
Four years ago today, almost two weeks after Hurricane Michael on 10/9/2018, lights were observed in the night across the lake from our home and it stirred hope that we might have power restored soon. Five days later we celebrated as the power trucks and linemen who worked our side of the lake restored power.
The photo above is the view across the lake after long nights of darkness.
I wrote: “From outside it seems our neighbors a mile away, across the lake, have power. Linemen were putting poles in place and running line on our street yesterday. Maybe soon…..until then we’ll enjoy the light God provides from many sources.” This was from our guest bedroom window at 4:30 a.m. I often have gotten up in the night through the years and been blessed by the sight of the moon shining outside our homes
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
