Genesis 6

1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

God created the First Couple as children of God fellowshipping with them, walking and talking with them and mutually enjoying relationship in the garden he created. Then humankind exercised its freewill prerogative, disobeying God, and that fellowship was broken, though God loved them still.  As humanity proliferated some remembered God, sought him out and he drew near to them. They retained the right to become sons and daughters of God because they believed the ancient stories of God fellowshipping with his children, their ancient kin. But others rejected the very notion of God altogether, being of the doubter breed needing to see to believe.  They became known as the sons and daughters of men, for they made no room in their souls for fellowship with God.

But when the sons of God saw the beauty of daughters of men, they took them as wives, failing to continue the lineage of sons and daughters of God with power and ability to readily fellowship with God.  But here and there remained men and women of true hearts and minds that remembered and desired God.  And the Spirit of God moved to and fro, seeking them out and abiding with them. Such men and women , sons snd daughters of God, were known by and justified by God as righteous because of their faith….those like Enoch, Noah, and Abraham….

And when God called to Abraham, Abraham answered and did as God commanded, obedient in faith to go out from his home in Ur to a new place where God promised to bless him and give him and his children, born of a son of God, a home forever. And taking his family with him, Abraham went desiring that God would restore the family of God that had been lost by carelessness, jealousy, disobedience, and neglect of God’s Presence on the earth and yielding to the temptations of the Ancient Enemy of God

This was God’s plan for redemption for the disobedience of his children who had given away their birthright by seeking the things of earth and making idols of them instead of worshipping the Creator.

And when time and time again the children of God would wander away, like restless sheep who got beyond the sound of the Shepherd’s voice, he sought them out, coming to them as One in their own form, that he might lead them back into understanding of how to abide in his Presence and fellowship with him.     He himself became incarnate that we might see him, The Holy One, walking among us again, be reminded of his steadfast love and gentleness, his wisdom and stature, and to demonstrate how the favor of God among his sons and daughters was to be sustained in the earth enjoying favor among men, as well. He came so that the sons and daughter of men could become sons and daughters of God once more and flourish as the First Parents had, in the garden. It is  how he intends his family to flourish even today.  And he pours out his Holy Spirit from the altar of the first Living Sacrifice, in the temple of Jesus Christ’s own Body who died once and for all to redeem and restore us as sons and daughters of God.  And as we    wade and swim in the River of Life that is Jesus Himself, we are buoyed by the Holy Spirit of God that moves upon the waters, too, and brings Life everywhere the River flows.
