What was the Scripture text for the sermon where you worshipped today?
Ours was Psalm 71:12-18 “Do not be far from me, my God; come quickly, God to help me. May my accusers perish in shame; may those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace. As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise your more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long- though I know not how to relate them all. I come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone. Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.
Dr. Luther reflected on why God would have created so vast a creation, giving examples of the magnificence of the cosmos and the extraordinary beauty and ingenuity of the design of nature. It is far too complex and intricate and balanced to have been haphazard. Periodically, something else comes to light that was previously unknown that gives us even greater insight into the majesty of the natural realm- either cosmically or microscopically…. Why has God chosen such a continuing revelation of his creative genius?
TO SHOW HIS STRENGTH AND POWER! He is worth being revealed as Creator God. He is good! He loves us and will do even more than we can imagine, anticipate, or ask!
TO PUT THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE FOR US AND REMIND US OF OUR ROLE IN THE LARGER ORDER OF GOD’S PLAN.
TO HELP US LEARN TO PUT OUR TRUST IN HIM, EVEN IN DEATH.
TO MOTIVATE US TO SHARE HIM AND HIS MIGHTY WORKS WITH OTHERS…..GENERATION TO GENERATION.
