Looking Toward Lent: Putting Off

As Lent looms over the horizon, think about what God wants to root out of the soil of your soul…. what sharp stones, what loamy lumps of clay, what weeds, what limbs or debris…. even buried garbage needs to go. And since spiritual nature, like physical nature, abhors a vacuum, what of his own character and attributes does God wish to plant in the prepared and tilled fertile soil that remains in your soul.

Growth is putting off the old to put in the new ….. perhaps another metaphor is like molting…. something that constrains, is dry, dead and lifeless has to go so new growth that is occurring can achieve its fullness…. Christ’s fullness….. the fullness of grace and truth. (John 1:14). It’s time to prepare for a new season. Wrenching out the weeds….Putting off the old and putting on the new….Ephesians 4:22-24

“22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Re-newed, to the condition we were created to be. Re-minded with the mind of Christ with which we are transformed according to His Spirit at work in us.
