This is my call. I accept my responsibility to Be The Church, in all places, at all times, with all people, in all circumstances to the best of my understanding and ability based on my confidence in the call and God’s promise to equip me for each task. I am not intended to do this task in isolation. I am part of a larger community of faith and, as a leader in groups within faith community, I believe that we rely on one another to “do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
Women who have lived in generational poverty, state dependency systems of care, in family or other abuse of various kinds, with emotionally orphaned or abandoned souls, financially stressed, lacking clear and coherent self-identity, education, life skills, supportive community, and an accurate perception of reality are at risk of coercion into any number of situational compromises that leave them with consequences they cannot navigate alone. The accumulated trauma, lack of trust in “systems” and people, (specifically and/or collectively), alienation from family relationships, or conversely, years of enabling by unhealthy or even toxic family and other relationships is enough to create emotional emergencies that may lead to permanent mental health challenges for an individual. When internal and external resources can be presented, embraced, and utilized these women can often achieve a much higher degree of executive decision-making cognitive skills, competent financial independence, and successful living than even they had imagined.
