Consecration Slipping Into Consternation

Time is short…. I feel it. My days ahead are far fewer than the ones behind me. It is probably just the fact of another birthday around the corner and the settled-in feeling that I and others can slip into when our heart carries us, like a mechanical moving sidewalk or an automated assembly line, to a place where, having lost someone we loved and counted on to share in this life, we are now waiting for our own chariot, (or UPS truck)to swing low and pick us up…

But then, if I’m truly already living into eternity by virtue of having received the kingdom of God in Christ, what difference should the tyranny of time’s urgency mean to me? I am already in service to the timeless eternity of God, living in God’s perfect kairos time…… I must remind myself to live without the bondage of life’s “timing chain”…… transcending the clock’s and the calendar’s tyranny. Live each day as long as it is today and trust God with all my tomorrows….. as well as all of the tomorrows of those I love and into whose lives I have sown.

As wise counselors have said, “Keep your eyes on the Prize.” Be careful about the way in which consecration can slip into consternation…. Stay focused on right here, right now. Be present in the moment. Be faithful to the task at hand. Keep my hand on the plow or whatever the assigned task for today will be.
