An online devotional group was discussing deliverance from demonic influences this week. I have written about deliverance experiences in our women’s life recovery program. Something I have observed is that Jesus didn’t seem to go looking for spiritually harassed, oppressed, obsessed, or possessed people, He seemed to encounter them in the course of His day or they came seeking Him. (Except the disciples he called, and he knew what was in their hearts and later indicated that God had given them to Him..) People with problems came to Him, or some came on behalf of them, to seek His help. There were times He would ask them, “What do you want me to do?” Not for His sake in knowing their need but to see if they were self-aware enough to know what it was they wanted and what they needed freedom from. He was discerning of their hearts and knew if they truly desired freedom and Jesus provided the means for them to be free of harassing or controlling spirits that manifested through brokenness and sinful behavior and inability to resist temptation
When I began Titus 2’s ministry God said to me, ” Just get up each day and do what you are supposed to do and I will bring them to you.” And He has.
What I have observed is that those who have struggled with their life-limiting issues sufficiently are generally eager to be rid of them and will state unequivocally, “I don’t know what lies ahead, but I know what lies behind and I AM NOT GOING BACK THERE AGAIN!” Demonic influences are very cunning and will “wait for a more opportune time.” Some will lie dormant while an individual is compliant and goes through the motions of a program. Once she’s out , they will gradually resume the reins of control. There has been no fundamental transformation, therefore, no freedom. More rebellious individuals seem not to realize how controlled they have been. If they eventually gain the insights from God, they will recognize the hindering spirits influencing them, be shown the pattern of behavior, hear the Word of God that calls them to freedom and truly surrender to Christ’s work within. But for my part, I know that it is the individual’s cooperation with God’s Spirit that will result in the transformed life….. not my teaching alone, nor my desires for them, nor their diligent checking off of the boxes of curriculum tasks.
I seldom use something formal in bringing one to awareness of the hindering spirits within, but allow the Holy Spirit to guide me in prayer with or for the affected person. This prayer, however, was shared with me 10-12 years ago and I have shared it occasionally for individuals to pray for themselves in seeking to explore factors that may have put them at risk of spiritual oppression.
PRAYER OF DELIVERANCE
Heavenly Father I come to you now in Jesus’ name, to repent of all the sins in my life and also in the lives of my family ancestors that may have resulted in a generational curse of sin.
I repent of all disobedience, rebellion, and mistreatment of others, lying, cheating, using or slandering your name in vain. I repent of all perversion, lust, incest, fornication, adultery, idolatry, all witchcraft, murder, and occult involvement.
Heavenly Father, I ask for your forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of your Son—the Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus I now take the authority you have given me and ask that you anoint me now as I command all evil spirits of anger, rage, fear, depression, destruction, torment, guilt, bondage, vagabond wandering, rejection, un-forgiveness, bitterness, mind-control, double-mindedness, confusion, passivity, sickness, diseases, pain, and all addictions to food, alcohol, drugs, and nicotine to come out in the name of Jesus. No demonic spirit is welcome in this holy temple!
I break all spoken curses and spells that may have been performed over my life and any curses resulting from involvement with occult practices like Ouija boards, psychics, tarot cards, horoscopes, unholy music, or through the influence of unholy visual images from television programs, movies, or other entertainment.
In the name of Jesus Christ, break all curses off my family, marriage, children, and relatives. I claim freedom from every shackle, chain, cord, habit, craving, debt, soul-tie, and spirit that has tried to rob, kill, or destroy my life.
I command my family to be set free. I break every demonic assignment over my family. Satan, loose them now! In Jesus’ name! According to Galatians 3:13, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law.
Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I am now God’s child and through my Lord Jesus, I am able to cast down all demonic powers and spirits that come against me or in my family’s lives by the power of your Word and your Spirit in me.
I am not cursed, but blessed! I am blessed coming in and blessed going out. I am above and not beneath. I am the head and not the tail. I am blessed and what God has blessed cannot be cursed. I am free and I am saved. I choose now to exercise my faith and know that confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10: 9 & 10). All my sins have been forgiven, and I am loosed from the curse that came as a result of disobedience and rebellion to the Word of God.
Thank you, Heavenly Father, thank you Lord Jesus, thank you Holy Spirit for forgiving me and loving me. Thank you for setting me free from every curse and unholy spirit that has operated in my life. Father God, I pray for discernment and for a new vision to help me recognize and resist all evil and all fleshly, worldly ways. I am anointed through the Lord Jesus Christ, and I thank you Jesus for your guidance and discipline as I continue to be a victorious soldier, servant, and your holy child. AMEN!
