Hurricane Rebuilding and Kingdom Building

it’s been 3 1/2 years now since Hurricane Michael.  If is even now a topic of conversation, as grief over losses associated with season continues.

From 2/21/2019…. 4 months after Hurricane Michael…

Over Simple Supper last evening at church Bible study some of us were comparing progress in storm recovery and celebrating small victories for various families. We were also observing that, now four and a half months into this process, many are feeling very tired. The adrenaline immediately after the storm has long ago been depleted. We can see progress, but we can also see how much more still needs to be done. The realization of how large the task is for our community and how little we as individuals can accomplish day by day sometimes overwhelms us. There were volunteers from Bushnell, FL and Michigan with us. They are staying at First Church of God-PC and Church of the Nazarene. They, too, have been overwhelmed by all the work to be done here. Their week’s effort will have made a significant difference in the lives of some. I have had to pace myself and expect less ambitious results from the process. I have to be realistic about what can be done in a day or a week and take a long view of it all.

Kingdom building is a lot like that, too…….. a long view. But it is also trusting that God will give us the time, resources, and desire to accomplish all that he has for us to do.

Don’t give up. Don’t give in. Do not grow weary in doing good. Persevere day by day in faithfulness to the task at hand. The results will come in time if we simply continue with the work.
