Lot Escaping Destruction

Reviewing a recap of reading from a couple of years ago….
Lot was being urged out of Sodom by the two “visitors” (Angels) ahead of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorah. But instead of going to the mountains as directed he asked for a close by town Zoar. The visitors acquiesced. From where he was he could see the rising smoke of the devastation and of course he’d already witnessed the sudden death of his wife as she looked back after being told not to do so. Pretty quickly though he and his daughters went on to the mountains where they’d been directed to go to in the beginning, out of fear we’re told. And that was not the end of his trouble. His daughters feared for their futures and took matters into their own hands, manipulating their father into becoming the father of children for them, who would become the patriarchs of enemy nations to their great uncle Abraham’s people generations later. When one is out and out disobedient (Sarah), seeks to negotiate for something less demanding or more convenient (Lot), or simply fails to seek God’s will or trust God, choosing to take things into one’s own hands (the daughters), there is always a price to be paid. Is it any wonder the daughters chose as they did having watched their mother and father’s lack of obedience?
