Post Hurricane Michael Recovery

Status: whelmed, but not overly so. Thanks for prayers We are safe , secure and waterproofed now at the Byrd house. Adjuster scheduled for Nov 2.

Titus 2 residence is windblown and tattered but standing. Some water damage to ceilings. Tree took out storage shed. And water system is laying down on ground. Recovery will be slow. Ladies all safe and with families. Some will come back and finish later.

Only tears on Sunday when I saw our church. Public works and Services around county are being restored faster than expected, thanks to crews from all over. We are grateful for all the prayers and support. The task is great but our God is greater!

First showers in 8 days yesterday at a friend’s home on north end of lake. Jack and Debbie Williams had no wdamage to their home but, like all of us, have had our treed lots at the lake relandscaped by Michael! They have well and house on generators.

Some people sadly are very traumatized by the degree of destruction and do not have the resilience or resources to see their way through this. They need prayers and they need us, their church family and neighbors. We’re pulling together.

Thanks to all. God’s hand is evident in many places and situations.

More “normal”: We had a large barn owl that resided among the trees at our neighbor’s house. He serenaded us in the evenings and wee small hours of morning. I had not heard him since HM and wondered if he’d taken off for parts less disrupted or been killed in the midst of the chaos.

This morning as I took the first of our three dogs out for his first morning break the owl’s familiar hoots greeted us. It made me smile.

I think a lot of us have been at a loss for words since HM’s visit. Now, like our neighborhood barn owl, we’re healing enough to begin singing again.

A friend across town reported that their neighborhood owl had returned last night, too!

it’s the little things …….. all the little things bring comfort.

Noted today, also:

in the list of “Things I Can Do”:

I’m not sure if it’s the drier weather, shifts in our home’s framework, or my overly trauma-sensitized sensory receptors, but suddenly every door in our home seems to be squeaking. After several days of enduring the annoyance, this morning I took a can of household oil and some cotton balls and I wiped down every door hinge in the house.

I can’t repair the fractured truss or replace the water-damaged wood floors but I can silence squeaking doors.

Every little thing helps……
