I was with one of my brothers and my sister and we were talking about things we heard our Father say when we were growing up, sayings that were repeated often to us. It reminded me of this section of Solomon’s wisdom to his son about “guarding one’s heart.” We hear that phrase, but do we know how to do it? There are three pathways that access our hearts that can lead us astray.
1.) Be careful what you hear. Do not listen to liars or deceivers.
2.) Be careful what you see. Keep focused on your goals and do not waiver.
3.) Be careful where you go. Your choice of companions will determine your path.
Those weren’t exactly our Father’s words, but there was enough wisdom in his directions to us that we got the point that we had to be responsible for our own choices and accept the consequences of our actions. So choose wisely.
Proverbs 4
My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
21
Do not let them depart from your sight;
Keep them in the midst of your heart.
22
For they are life to those who find them
And health to all their body.
23
Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.
24
Put away from you a deceitful mouth
And put devious speech far from you.
25
Let your eyes look directly ahead
And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.
26
Watch the path of your feet
And all your ways will be established.
27
Do not turn to the right nor to the left;
Turn your foot from evil.
