“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (KJV)
I love music. The music of Christmas this year was wonderful. A number of people joined our choir just for the holiday season and, if I do say so myself, we sounded good! We even sang the Hallelujah Chorus for our Christmas Eve “Eve” music program. Music has the power to transport me into worship quicker than anything else.
I keep a running list of the attributes of God. Actually, I keep two lists. One is an alphabetical list created by a group of women in a Bible study I was leading in which we were contemplating the nature of God. Then I have another list that came from the Bible study Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby. When I read the verse above from Zephaniah, I checked both lists to see if God’s love of music was included in either one. It wasn’t, so I added it to both.
God sings. He sings over me with joy. I like the thought of God singing. I can imagine Him singing with me…..the Hallelujah chorus! Precious Lord Take My Hand. The 23rd Psalm. Trust and Obey. Hymn of Promise. The Doxology. There’s Just Something About That Name. Precious Memories. Abide With Me. Breathe On Me Breath of God. It Is Well With Me Soul. And so many more.
God is pleased when I sing. The things that give Him joy cause Him to sing. This is yet another way in which God has created mankind in His image (at least some of us)! Today I will sing unto the Lord.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16
