Follow or Be Led?
This morning as I awoke the Lord put two things before me in the sweet, personal, and intimate way in which He calls me to commune with Him as the day begins. The first was this: 1.) "Follow Jesus who has the mind of the Christ," then 2.) "Be led by the Spirit, who gives YOU the mind of the Christ." I got out of bed, went downstairs, fed the cats, then sat down to look more closely at these two directives, to explore this Word before me. There is a subtle difference between the two. However, it seems to me, as one who believes the Bible and believes in the incarnation of God in Jesus, the...
Dr Timothy Tennent Blog: Fulfillment Series Part 1
Great Read ...... Fulfillment Series Part 1: Adam June 30th, 2023 Gen. 1:26-28, 3:1-7; Rom. 5:12-25 "The Old Testament has such a wide array of books, 39, and hundreds of people, events and stories, such that it is not easy for many Christians to know exactly how or where to begin. Most people know the story of Jonah being swallowed by the great fish or David slaying the mighty Goliath. Many will find the familiar strains of Psalm 23 comforting in times of sorrow. But how does it all fit together? You may feel a bit daunted by the Old Testament and not even know where to begin or what...
Review Of The Journey
(On 10/26/22 I sent this to a spiritual director whose counsel and devotional teachings were having a significant impact on my life.) Re: .... awareness, attention in preparation for planting, to secure attunement, attachment, affection, abiding, and abandonment "In Nov 1996 I noticed that as the holidays approached I was finding a prime parking place everywhere I went... calling on client offices in my job, shopping at Walmart, grocery store trips, everywhere. After a week I thought, "This is strange. No way it's coincidence." I attributed it to God's favor, knowing how stressed my...
Grandparenting Matters
........"My Grandmother."........That is the most common answer. "To what?", you might ask? To the question: "Who represented Christ for you in your life? Who showed you something of God's character when you were growing up? Who has had an impact in teaching you what you believe about God?" This is the follow up series of questions to my first two questions in this part of the interview: "Are you a spiritual person? What does that mean to you?" If they say yes and give some kind of definition of their spirituality, the next question is about where that came from. These are the questions that...
The Kingdom Is Among You
( From 6/27/2021) From time to time I have received an online newsletter called “Sounds True”. I look at it to get the drift of what’s being peddled by the popular culture as “Truth” to ears that want to be tickled…… today it offered a free video by a renowned Zen master on mindfulness as a means to being present to others. He said that the object of meditation is to connect mind and body so that one may be fully present to those we love. Most all of these online pop psych newsletters or blogs are marketing ploys to sell you someone’s idea of the best new way to solve whatever problem...
Return To The Past
June 24, 2016......Some days when I read memories from previous FB posts, I wish I could go back in time.. at least for a few moments.... "The Lord is gracious and kind, ever encouraging and comforting. I am so blessed to know and be known by Christ, to have godly friends and a husband who fears and worships the Lord, loves me, and is a co-worker in ministry. I am in the best place in life I have ever been. Reasonable goals are in place for the near future to be accomplished toward which to work and I have the satisfaction of seeing God work in the lives of women he has entrusted to our...
Prayer During COVID-19
Posting this a.m., 6/24/2020...vSeems appropriate. "The world is in an uproar, but God is still on His throne. Fear and anxiety have gripped many hearts, but you still have access to God's powerful presence. May you find rest in Him today. Hatred spreads, and the enemy spews, but you serve the God of the breakthrough. Are you listening for His voice? He speaks peace to His people. He's your hiding place--a shelter from the storm. He’s moving in your midst even now. Do you believe it? Perceive it? How much bad news do you process before you lose heart and lose faith? It's time to steward your...
Vonnegut: Perspective on Failure
By Kurt Vonnegut: (posted 12/21/2020 by Michael Busch) “When I was 15, I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of “getting to know you” questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? What’s your favorite subject? And I told him, no I don’t play any sports. I do theater, I’m in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art 12/classes. And he went WOW. That’s amazing! And I said, “Oh no, but I’m not any good at ANY of them.” And he said something then that I will never...
Life Under and Beyond Roe
From my 1960's teen coming-of-age years until 1992, I was strongly pro-choice in my social views on abortion. In 1992, the Lord gently spoke in my spirit and I had a total 180 degree change of heart.. It resulted in significant changes in my thinking about a lot of things. Now,30 years later, I am seeing historic changes in policies on abortion as Roe v Wade is rolled back and authority is returned to states. I am pleased to say that our own eldest granddaughter, born 5 years after my change of heart, had been active for three years on the life team of a legal non-profit agency that had a...
Worthy Quotes: Charles Krauthammer
GO WHERE THE EVIDENCE TAKES YOU. “I was a Great Society liberal. I thought we ought to help the poor, we ought to give them all the money we can. And then, the evidence started to pour in. The evidence of how these grand programs, the poverty programs, the welfare programs--everything was making things worse. I didn't have a dog in that fight. I was willing to go where the evidence led. As a doctor, I'd been trained in empirical evidence. If the treatment is killing your patients, you stop the treatment.” Charles Krauthammer "You're betraying your whole life if you don't say what you...
